Activists inspect GM maize in Blitterswijck

Last saturday 22nd of July, 15 activists of XminY and Aseed held a public action at the field with genetically modified maize in Blitterswijck in the south of The Netherlands. The purpose of the inspection was to investigate the correctness of the information regarding the field trial given by the authorities and the research institute. The civil inspectors also took soil samples and provided information to the local villagers.

Soy info-events in Berlin

(Deutsch untenan) On November 12 in Mehringhoeven (Berlin) Anton Pieper from A SEED will report from the social struggles and land conflicts caused by the soy production in Paraguay. The presentation will show the results of the peaceful organised resistance of the small farmers. It will also explain their demands. In the presentation there will also be an analysis of the expectations and changes created by the election of Fernando Lugo as President of Paraguay on April 20 2008. The social movements have helped Lugo with his campaign, but now they expect that something will be done to improve their situation.

"GMO off the fields!", report on anti-GMO action in Drimmelen

On saturday June 24rd over 50 environmental activists visited a field with genetically modified Bt-Maize at Hooge Zwaluwe in the municipality of Drimmelen (in the south-west of the Netherlands). Supported by a sambaband and a batallion of the clown army CLOLONEL they informed the local population on the presence of the GM corn. The official purpose of the GM field is to measure contamination of regular corn at 25 meters distance.

Throw Genetic Engineering Overboard! - boat tour 2005 report

From the 3rd until the 15th of August 2005, a group of activists toured around the northern provinces of the Netherlands calling upon municipalities and farmers to declare their regions gm-free. The tour stopped at Den Helder, Texel, Terschelling, Harlingen, Leeuwarden, Emmeloord, Enkhuizen and Lelystad.

Actions to stop Straathofs mega pigstables

ImageGuerrilla Gardening in the Dutch Betuwe: “Animal industry equals animal suffering, climate disaster, and deforrestation.”

Friday April 17, 2009- 40 activists of the group 'Stop Straathof' made a vegetable garden on the terrain where agro-industrialist Straathof plans to expand one of his many pig farms. The action was a protest against the animal industry and accompanying soy production for animal feed, that causes a lot of suffering in South America. Read more...

Toxic-soy action at WWF in the Netherlands

ImageTuesday 19 May, 2009 -  Today, the head office of WWF-Netherlands received some extraordinary visitors, including a weeping panda, a Monsanto circus director, and various people in white overalls spraying "Roundup". The action is a protest on the occasion of the upcoming vote of the Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS), on 28 May in Campinas (Brazil). This forum will allow GM RoundupReady soy to be certified as 'responsible', while in reality, this soy is responsible for massive use of pesticides as well as deforestation and driving small farmers from their lands. A SEED on tour along mega pig stables

ImageIn june 2009 A SEED Europe and the German organisation Nandu have visited a large number of locations where local residents have organised themselves against the construction of mega pig stalls. Most dates on the tour featured an information meeting and a street event. But also the informal exchange of information, experiences, arguments and strategies are important objectives of the tour.

Pig Tour - reports from the tour-stops

August 6, 2009 – A group of 40 people closed the meat department in the Delhaize supermarket on the Meir in Antwerpen. The production and selling of meat and dairy contributes world wide more to the emission of the greenhouse gasses than all the traffic and transport together.
